What's it all about? Cyclesolihull is a volunteer-led community initiative to encourage more people to cycle in Solihull. Cycling is a fun and healthy way of getting around. At present we produce a growing range of route leaflets to encourage people to explore their local area by bike and provide opportunties for people to ride together along these routes. It is easy to get involved - just turn up and join one of the rides! |

Rain Check? See where the rain is now with the Met Office rainfall radar. Cyclesolihull rides go ahead unless there is persistant heavy rain (not just showers) or very strong winds. Rides are rarely cancelled but if we feel this is necessary because of bad weather we will try and put information about this here so please check before the ride if in doubt. |

Cyclesolihull's 'Centenary' It is hard to believe we have now completed 100 rides! Only two years ago we were pleased when half a dozen people turned up but now we rarely seem to get under 15! What is really pleasing is that we are still finding new people who are discovering the rides after all this time. Our simple aim remains to encourage people to get cycling and discover their local area in a different way. In a society where everyone is rushing around most of the time it can be quite difficult to take the time to slow down and begin to see places only a few miles away in a new light. More and more people seem to be discovering the simple pleasure of riding though the countryside under their own power with a few friends they never knew theyhad. Here's to the next 100! Cyclesolihull Community Rides are a great way to get cycling more!
Cyclesolihull E-News - Are you on the list? About once a month we send out a short update on the rides to everyone who have either provided an email address on the rides or through this website. However we do have some addresses that don't work, either because they may have changed or we have misread your writing. If you aren't receiving this monthly update and would like to, please email info@cyclesolihull.org.uk with 'subscribe' as the subject and we will update our list.

Which Ride? There are three types of regular rides. You can see the complete programme until early September 2008 here. Our Summer Cycle Rides are weekend afternoon rides which follow one of the 16 Cyclesolihull Routes. The "S" (short)routes are about 10 miles long and the "M" (medium) routes are about 15 miles long. There are also some summer weekday Evening Explorer Rides which follow the S routes. You can download the route leaflets here or pick up copies on the ride and at some libraries and cycle shops. All these rides use quiet roads and some cycle paths and have a refreshment stop. The pace is suitable for new cyclists and people getting back into cycling after a break. Children regularly come on these rides with their parents. These rides start from 12 different locations around the Borough so there should be a starting point near you. Saturday Stretcher Rides are longer, monthly rides from Brueton Park to provide an opportunity to ride further. There is no fixed route and the rides are typically 15-25 miles long. The pace is still quite leisurely but if you are new to cycling it is best to join a shorter ride first. There is nothing to pay and nothing to join - simply turn up and ride. Nobody knows how many people will be on the ride until it starts but typically it is 10 to 20 - please come along to the next one and increase this number! makeadatewithyourbike This is Cyclesolihull's simple message for the summer. We regularly meet new riders who have been meaning to come along for months, sometimes years. There is nothing like putting something in your diary to make it happen so why not get your bike roadworthy now and make a commitment to spend some time with your bike.. it will appreciate it. |
