Cycling is a healthy and environmentally friendly way for staff to travel to work and Birmingham International Airport is working in partnership with Solihull Council and the Solihull Cycling Steering Group to encourage more cycling to the Airport. Summer 2004 saw the completion of a segregated cycle route from Catherine-de-Barnes, providing a safer and more pleasant route for cyclists into the airport from the south. Staff wishing to cycle have access to free dedicated cycle storage lockers. Showers and clothes lockers are also being provided for those cyclists who wish to change their clothes. For passengers and visitors, free cycle stands are available close to the Passenger Terminals (opposite the T1 arrivals area) and for longer stays, Left Luggage in Terminal 1 will accept cycles for a nominal charge. For overseas visitors, Birmingham International Airport is the ideal airport to start a cycling holiday. It is possible to be cycling on quiet country lanes within minutes of leaving the passenger terminals. Historic towns including Stratford and Warwick are only an afternoon ride away. Local trains serving the airport also accept cycles without booking. For further information and a free copy of the Airport's Cycling Guide call Stephen Holt on 0121 767 7076.
